Welcome to the 2010-2011 Stratford Band Boosters! We are very excited about the great year ahead and all the wonderful activities planned for our band families. As you already know, the fall is an incredibly busy season with football games, marching festivals and the UIL Marching Competition. All of the hours of afternoon practice will culminate in a spectacular show that you won’t want to miss. This year the marching band show will feature La Nouba from Cirque de Soleil. The fall will also bring two of the Boosters’ biggest fundraisers: Homecoming Mums and Tamale Sales. With everyone’s help, we can offer great personal and financial support to our students. By virtue of your child choosing Band as their Stratford home, all parents are automatically members of the Band Booster organization. With this membership comes great responsibility. We owe it to our students to support their endeavors and there are many and varied opportunities for each of us to contribute. We have morning, afternoon, evening, weekday and weekend opportunities for everyone to pick and choose the volunteer times that work best for their schedule. This is the year of the Band Booster Volunteer! All the money raised from donations and from our parent fundraisers help the band program by paying in part or wholly for: College Scholarships (last year we were able to award five $500 checks to deserving seniors), the Band Banquet, a discretionary Band Director’s Fund, Clinician fees, Color Guard expenses, Drum Major Camp, Instrument Replacement, Private Lessons, Senior Recognitions, Student Food & Beverages, and much more. For these important reasons, we strongly encourage your active participation in the Band Boosters. Mark your calendars with these important upcoming events: Band Rush (Sat, Aug. 14) – This is your first chance to meet our band directors, band officers and section leaders, and Band Booster officers. Your student will get fitted for their marching uniform and you’ll be able to pay your student fees. There will also be many sign up sheets for volunteer opportunities. I encourage you to sign up early and often! We will also need help on this day with the sizing and hemming of the marching uniforms. Let us know if you can help. Outback Steakhouse Family Dinner (Wed, Aug. 18) – Kickoff for marching season and the first fundraiser for the boosters. This event is made possible by our alumni parents, Lyle and Rhozine Hart of the Outback Steakhouse, 10001 Westheimer. Each family is asked to purchase 4 tickets with a goal of selling 300 meals. We can make approximately $2,000 to be used for our students. We will need baked goods and help serving this family meal at the SHS cafeteria. You register TWICE a year (you will need to renew in January) either in person at the District office or online with the SBISD website and this will cover you for all SBISD schools. The band plays for this great Pep Rally. Chaperones – Are needed for all band events. Assistance in delivering drinks is needed whenever the marching band performs. Homecoming Mums – This is a fabulous fundraiser. We design and sell mums and garters (worn on shirt sleeve of boys) for the Homecoming Game and Dance. The Band Booster Club does outstanding customized work on these mums and garters so don’t buy your mums from anyone else and encourage your friends to buy from the band as well! Uniforms – Help size & hem the marching uniforms for our band students. Hand out and take in the students’ uniforms before and after games. In the spring, help size and hem uniforms for the formal concert season. Band Banquet/Dance [March 4 (tentative)]- Celebrate the band kids and their many accomplishments. All parents are encouraged to come and enjoy the dinner and program. Painless Fundraising – We hold both parent driven and student driven fundraising events. Monies raised by the students goes directly into their own band account and can be used to fund band approved items and events. Middle School Night (Sept. 10, 2010 )– Pizza and soda before a fall football game and the chance to encourage our middle school students to stay in band through high school.
